Farm Training WA – a new state subsidy

Eligible growers pay only half the cost of selected ChemCert WA training courses up front under a new subsidy scheme. Less up-front cost, no waiting for refunds and minimum paperwork are advantages of this new WA subsidy.

Farm Training WA is a state training subsidy scheme which has been put in place for 12 months from July 1, 2008 to June 30, 2009. It replaces the federally-funded FarmBis scheme which ceased in June 2008.

The scheme offers eligible growers a 50% subsidy on the cost of selected ChemCert WA training including: Risk Management in Pesticide Use, Spray Application in Grain Production and Spray in Vineyards. The Reaccreditation Course and Using Chemicals Safely are not eligible.

Growers pay 50% of the cost of the course up front. ChemCert WA claims the balance from Farm Training WA. Those eligible for subsidy include primary producers, farm workers and farm family. Ineligible course participants are shire workers and government employees.

The costs for eligible participants on these courses are:

Risk Management in Pesticide Use (2 days for accreditation)
$190 each (or $185 each for two or more from the same production unit)

Spray Application in Grain Production and Spray in Vineyards (1 day for reaccreditation)
$132.50 each (or $127.50 each for two or more from the same production unit).

Please note that the Reaccreditation Course is not eligible for subsidy and the cost is $265 each (or $255 each for two or more from the same production unit).

Farm Training WA application forms are available from the trainer on the day of the course.
